The Construction Estimator draws up, estimates, and determines the overall costs of a new or existing construction project. He/She creates a list with all the needed materials and writes down an estimated amount necessary to complete the client’s project.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares and estimates budget costs for construction by studying plans and specifications
- Advices on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and conduct negotiations
- Selects, measures and track important metrics
- Keeps up to date with the latest regulatory and legislative requirements
- Develops estimates and bids for construction projects
- Reviews documents or consult experts to collect all necessary data
- Prepares cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project
- Develops bids for construction projects
Job Requirements/Qualifications
- BSc/BA in engineering, construction science or relevant field
- Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or other qualification will be a plus
- Strong math skills including basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products with a focus on Microsoft Word and Excel
- Familiarity with computer programs such as Timberline or HCSS HeavyBid

The Construction Estimator must have strong math skills including algebra, geometry, and basic arithmetic and the ability to navigate specifications and plans. He/She must be proficient in demonstrating proposals and projects and the ability to handle multiple assignments at once.
