The Safety Coordinator works to ensure that other employees at their company can complete their work safely. He/She sets safety standards for their workplace based on legal requirements and trains employees to help them understand these rules. He/She also monitors working conditions and resolves any safety issues that may arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Creates and implements safety plans while ensuring that they are being followed daily
- Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures.
- Prepares educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis
- Conducts safety observation reports on a regular basis, depending on the length of the project
- Trains employees in safety procedures.
- Attends safety walks and inspections before or during each project to analyze safety risks
- Advises and leads employees on various safety-related topics
- Educates employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operation
- Oversees use of dangerous chemicals and machinery.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and security programs.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in health and safety or a related field may be preferred
- Previous work experience as a Safety Coordinator for more than 3 years
- Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
- Understanding of federal, state and city safety requirements, including OSHA
- Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety
- Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
Skills needed for this roles
The Safety Coordinator must demonstrate broad knowledge of state and federal safety guidelines for the workplace.He/She must exhibit knowledge of appropriate emergency protocols and possess knowledge of legal repercussions of workplace accidents. He/She must have extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
