The Paramedic provides emergency healthcare services for critical patients. He/She assesses critical patients, stabilizing patients with life-threatening injuries in and out of hospital settings, and moves critically injured individuals safely to the hospital for emergency medical care.
Key Responsibilities
- Responds to 911 calls for emergency medical assistance, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or bandaging a wound
- Reports their observations to healthcare staff and documenting medical care provided to patients
- Monitors and administers medication, pain relief and intravenous infusions
- Assesses a patient’s condition and determine a course of treatment
- Drives the ambulance and/or other emergency vehicles.
- Provides first-aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured patients
- Transports emergency patients safely in an ambulance from an active scene to a medical facility
- Uses specialist equipment including ventilators and defibrillators
- Transfers patients to the emergency department of a hospital or other healthcare facility
- Communicates effectively with patients and their relatives/friends
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in paramedical science.
- Appropriate state licensure.
- Proven previous work experience as a Paramedic
- Knowledge of on-site medical procedures, terminology, and medications.
- Knowledge in providing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Skills needed for this role
The Paramedic must have the ability to think quickly and critically, especially when deciding the next course of treatment. He/She must have strong communication skills, especially when it comes to non-verbal interactions with sick or injured patients. Having the ability to use and operate specialized instrumentation and medical equipment is also essential for this role.
