Accounting supervisors ensure that all financial and accounting operations within an accounting department run smoothly.They oversee the work of junior accounting staff, review financial statements to ensure accuracy, and reconcile general ledger accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Creates and initiates accounting procedures to increase organization
- Analyzes financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting practices
- Liaises with department heads to ensure that each department remains within budget
- Evaluates and improves accuracy and completeness of financial records
- Supervises and provides overall guidance to account clerks as well as junior accounting staff
- Maintains cash flow by monitoring bank balances and cash requirements
- Ensures that the company maintains compliance with accounting legislation
- Performs advanced reviews of business operational trends and expected obligations to prepare accurate forecasts
Job Requirements/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) accreditation
- Proven experience working as an Accounting Supervisor
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- The ability to process large amounts of numerical data
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
Skills needed for this role
Accounting Supervisor must have excellent management and supervisory skills. She/ He must be excellent in written and verbal communication skills. She/ He must portray excellent organizational and time management skills. Mastery of accounting and tax preparation software is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software is an advantage.
