Forensic accountants perform two broad functions: litigation support and investigation. Accountants who perform litigation support provide information regarding losses from torts, as well as potential judgments and awards from lawsuits.
Key Responsibilities
- Uncovers and investigates financial evidence
- Performs forensic research to trace funds and identify assets for recovery
- Communicates to business owners, law enforcement, or other employers about the evidence they have found
- Provides litigation support and presents findings to be used as trial evidence
- understands the wider economic and legal implications of a case
- Reviews financial documents to identify inaccuracies
- Works closely with law enforcement officers and agencies
Job Requirements/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred
- Proven work experience as a Forensic Accountant
- Experience with financial reporting requirements
- Understanding of forensic auditing procedures
- SAP experience is a plus
Skills needed for this role
Forensic accountants must have excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for this role, as is the ability to be discreet and objective. Forensic accountants also need to have strong communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.
