Bookkeeper

Bookkeepers oversee a company’s financial data and compliance by maintaining accurate books on accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and daily financial entries and reconciliations. They perform daily accounting tasks such as monthly financial reporting, general ledger entries, and record payments and adjustments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews and files financial documents, coded accounting entries for data processing and posted daily receipts and payments in accordance with all corporate protocols
  • Maintains records of financial transactions by establishing accounts; posting transactions; ensures legal requirements compliance
  • Processes costs, business expenses and money received, and records details in bookkeeping software
  • Prepares and distributes invoices and receipts to debtors and suppliers
  • Records transactions such as income and outgoings, and posting them to various accounts
  • Maintains the trial balance, by a reconciliation of general ledgers
  • Develops a system to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts; defining bookkeeping policies and procedures
  • Establishes QuickBooks accounting system to reflect accurate financial records
  • Reconciles reports to third-party records such as bank statements
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA is a plus
  • Previous bookkeeping experience preferred
  • Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas

Skills needed for this role

A bookkeeper must have excellent numeracy skills as well as having a logical and analytical mind. The ability to multi-task along with strong organisational skills is also key. Being consistent, accurate, and minimizing errors are key characteristics that employers are seeking for this position.
