Credit Analyst

A Credit Analyst is responsible for assessing a loan applicant’s ability to repay the loan and recommending that it be approved or denied. Credit analysts are employed by commercial and investment banks, credit card companies, credit rating agencies, and investment companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Controls credit exposure by providing financial order management support to minimize risk and obtain timely payment
  • Evaluates clients’ credit data and financial statements in order to determine the degree of risk involved in lending money to them
  • Works in tandem with the sales team and customers to negotiate payments and verify account reconciliations
  • Confers with clients to verify their financial/credit transactions and to resolve their complaints
  • Compiles information, completes loan applications, and composes reports detailing the degree of risk involved in the loan or credit request; recommends approval or denial based on results
  • Designates the degree of risk involved in extending credit by performing a cash flow analysis of each business
  • Determines the expected profitability of loans by analyzing a business’s financial data including quality of management, income growth, and market shares
  • Confers with credit associations and references to exchange credit information on clients

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics required
  • Three to five years of related experience required
  • Good Communication and Presentation Skills, detail-oriented and highly-analytical
  • Required skill(s): Finance and investment Analysis, reports analysis
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time-management skills
