The Managing Editor reviews, revises, and proofreads written works for publication. Managing editors are also responsible for training and editing writers, polishing and proofreading written work, and ensuring that all media (such as images and videos) included with the writing is properly sourced.
Key Responsibilities
- Plans and manages all daily operations
- Hires, coaches and supervises personnel
- Coordinates editorial publications and meetings
- Builds and nurtures a team of talented writers, designers and producers
- Assigns tasks for writers, designers, producers and editors
- Creates and manages detailed content schedules
- Oversees proofreading procedures and edit copy when necessary
- Assists in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style and tone
- Resolves issues as they arise
- Attends events on behalf of the company or editor in chief
- Analyzes performance metrics across properties to quantify results
- Monitors and optimizes performance to meet traffic, engagement and growth targets
- Implements best practices, workflows, tools and templates to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the publishing process
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- Strong editing skills, as well as written and verbal communication.
- Data-driven, analytical mindset.
- Project management and teamwork ability.
- Exceptional ability in copywriting and editing
- In depth knowledge of WordPress and SEO concepts
Skills needed for this role
The Managing Editor must have excellent interpersonal skills and must be proficient in content marketing tools and performance metrics. He/She must have great management and organizational skills, as well as leadership skills.
