Production Manager

The Production Manager ensures that manufacturing equipment and tools function properly and increase an organization’s efficiencies. His/Her duties include building production schedules, making sure production processes stay within budgets and deadlines and reviewing the productivity of an organization’s manufacturing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans and organizes production schedules
  • Ensures that the production will be cost effective by estimating costs and negotiating and agreeing budgets with both clients and managers
  • Ensures all safety and health standards are met to keep an organization accident-free
  • Ensures that health and safety protocols are adhered to.
  • Organizes the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment
  • Monitors productivity rates and product standards and implement quality control programmes
  • Develops workflow policies and procedures that improve efficiency without compromising safety or quality
  • Ensures that health and safety protocols are adhered to.
  • Collates and analyzes data, putting together production reports for both factory managers and customers
  • Establishes a balance between increased productivity and reduced costs of manufacturing operations

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • A degree in business administration, manufacturing/engineering or relevant field
  • More than 3 years of experience as a Production Manager or similar role
  • Certification of quality control is a strong advantage (ISO 9000 etc.)
  • Familiarity with company and industry quality standards and processes
  • Excellent numerical skills and understanding of data analysis/statistical methods
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Skills needed for this role

The Production Manager must have excellent communication, numeracy and computer literacy skills. He/She must have good people management skills and management of staff. He/She must be knowledgeable in identifying problems and implement preventative strategies to minimise risk. Being able to develop good working relationships and trust with various teams are also essential for this role.
