Safety Manager

The Safety Manager works to prevent workplace accidents and promotes health and safety awareness and education to fellow employees. He/She is responsible for making sure that employees follow health and safety laws and creating policies for a safer work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements OHS policies and programs
  • Creates and implements workplace health and safety plans and procedures
  • Monitors and addresses compliance with all health and safety legislation
  • Advises and leads employees on various safety-related topics
  • Evaluates health and safety practice and procedures for risk assessment and following legal guidelines
  • Offers general health and safety advice to all employees
  • Delivers health and safety training and presentations, including new hire orientations
  • Prepares educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis
  • Monitors the removal of biological, physical or chemical hazards from a workplace
  • Reviews existing policies and procedures
  • Approves and arranges for the purchase of safety equipment
  • Enforces preventative measures

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health and safety or a related field may be preferred
  • Registration as a Certified Safety Professional or similar form of licensure as a safety manager
  • Previous work experience as a Safety Manager for more than 5 years
  • Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Understanding of federal, state and city safety requirements, including OSHA
  • Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety

Skills needed for this roles

The Safety Manager must have extensive attention to detail to distinguish safety hazards and the ability to provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures. He/She must have a good understanding of data analysis and risk assessment and good organizational, leadership and motivational skills. Having excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential for this role.
