The Sales Engineer sells complex scientific and technological products or services to businesses. He/She serves as a liaison in the sales process when complex and technical equipment or services are involved. He/She negotiates product or service sales that would benefit the client’s needs and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Prepares and delivers technical presentations explaining products or services to existing and prospective customers
Talks with customers and engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine system requirements
Collaborates with sales teams to understand customer requirements and provide sales support
Secures and renews orders and arrange delivery
Plans and modifies products to meet customer needs
Helps clients solve problems with installed equipment
Recommends improved materials or machinery to customers, showing how changes will lower costs or increase production
Helps in researching and developing new products
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
BA/BS University degree with a concentration in marketing, promotions, advertising sales, or business administration preferred
Familiarity with office software and phone systems
Creativity to approach sales and build customer relationships in groundbreaking new ways
Ability to accurately enter data and generate reports
Skills needed for this role
The Sales Engineer must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. He/She must have excellent sales and customer service skills with a proven ability to explain technical products to non-technical audiences. He/She must have the ability to apply engineering, technology, or other related principles to product sales.
