Veterinarian

The Veterinarian is responsible for providing medical care to animals. He/She diagnoses, treats, and researches various animal medical conditions. He/She treats animals such as pets, livestock, and exotic animals with a variety of medical equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains animal health by diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries.
  • Examines animals and diagnosing any of their medical issues
  • Diagnoses illnesses in a variety of different animals
  • Determines the nature of disease or injury by examining pets and/or large animals.
  • Performs laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging to diagnose animal medical conditions
  • Prescribes the appropriate treatment or operating on the animal if necessary
  • Advises pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare and general care
  • Restores animal health by treating animals surgically or medically.
  • Assesses and examines patients, and diagnoses their medical issues.
  • Promotes health of animals by advising animal owners about sanitation measures, feeding, and general care.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Completion of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
  • Appropriate state licensure.
  • Proven previous work experience as a Veterinarian
  • Ability to make prudent decisions regarding the welfare and well-being of animals.
  • Experience conducting various types of surgeries, vaccinations and health checks on animals

Skills needed for this role

The Veterinarian must have an understanding of local and regional laws about animals and their welfare. He/She must give appropriate advice to pet owners regarding their animals, such as providing them with dietary recommendations. Having excellent social and communication skills for dealing with animal owners are also essential for this role.
