Crane Operator

The Crane Operator is responsible for operating a stationary or traveling crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. Depresses buttons, lifts levers, and ensures load is safely attached to the crane before bringing it down.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of material-moving equipment daily according to schedule
  • Manipulates or depresses cane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions
  • Operates the crane under supervision
  • Conducts machine safety checks each day
  • Inspects cranes and calculating capacities
  • Completes job tickets, service quality summaries, and all other necessary paperwork
  • Understands and executes the job billing process
  • Performs routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required and initiate additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary
  • Moves material around site according to a plan or schedule
  • Moves levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis to raise and lower crane boom and to raise and lower load-line

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proven work experience as a crane operator for more than 3 years
  • Experience working with lift trucks, overhead cranes and mobile cranes
  • Must possess NCCCO or equivalent crane operator certification
  • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations, and ANSI Standards in crane operations

Skills needed for this role

The Crane Operator must have a good understanding of how to use and maintain machines and tools. He must have good team working skills, patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, attention to details, and good spatial awareness.
