The Pharmacologist investigates the effects of pharmacological products on organic life systems, investigates the effects of harmful chemicals, and researches the potential beneficial and harmful effects of chemicals on certain regions of the body. The Pharmacologist should be capable of operating medical machinery and equipment used in research
Key Responsibilities
- Designs, plans and conducts controlled experiments and/or clinical trials to improve understanding of a drug’s activity
- Uses computers, high technology measuring systems and other sophisticated equipment to collect, analyze and interpret data
- Applies and develops the results of research to work through a variety of applications, such as new products, processes, techniques and practices
- Draws up proposals for future developmental tests
- Organizes and oversees tests of new drugs and medicines, ensure quality control and secure approval for their use
- Liaises with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with local, national and international regulations
- Plans, coordinates and supervises the duties of other technical staff and trains or mentors early-career pharmacologists.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- PhD degree in cellular and molecular pharmacology
- Knowledge of biochemistry, biology, biostatistics, physiology and pathology
- Skills in mathematics and statistics
- General aptitude in computer science and information technology
- Demonstrated interest in developing new medicines and treatments
- State license and certification to administer drugs to humans
Skills needed for this role
The Pharmacologist must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills. He/She must have strong supervisory and leadership skills and must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
