The Debt Collector works with customers to collect their outstanding debts to an organization. His/Her duties include organizing and keeping track of customer’s outstanding debt accounts, contacting debtors to learn more about their payment status and negotiating payments and payment plans with customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Updates account status and database regularly
- Accepts payments over the phone via credit card
- Identifies deviations from predetermined payment plans
- Assists in an organization or debt collection agency to communicate directly with debtors
- Negotiates account resolution and accurately inputs and documents actions within the collection systems
- Keeps track of assigned accounts to identify outstanding debts
- Handles customers’ questions or complaints
- Contacts customers with balances and negotiate payment terms and schedules
- Calls and emails defaulters to restate their dues
- Notifies the owners of account that are past due of their duty to pay
Job Requirements/Qualifications
- High School Diploma or General educational diploma is required
- Successful completion of the Professional Debt Collector Certification (ACA) is strongly preferred
- Proven work experience as a Debt Collector
- Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and basic databases

The Debt Collector must have good communication and interpersonal skills, since a debt collector is expected to communicate efficiently with customers or clients. He/She must have good negotiation skills and works cooperatively with customers to resolve their debts by approaching the necessary method.
